A wise drag queen once said: we’re all born naked, and the rest is drag.
The Woods owns no fewer than 161 private acres with streams, a four-acre lake, and plenty of campsites – all of it set against the backdrop of the breathtaking Pocono Mountains. The campsite holds an Annual Bear Fair, a fabulous celebration of all things big, gay, and hairy. The 4th of July and New Year’s Eve are particularly busy times, both with an enormous party and fireworks display.
We came across a few choices for food in the surrounding area outside the grounds – we suggest visiting Los Pepes.
It's refreshing to see somewhere that aims to promote male bonding and camaraderie over anything else.
Along with the regular RV and tent campsites, there are gorgeous ranch house rooms available as well. From yoga and sports to parties and cultural excursions, here are just a few of the possibilities available for the aspiring nudist or seasoned naked adventurer alike:
Among the many ways to see the world naked, there’s nothing quite like a gay sailing trip to put the wind under your sails.
And with 40 acres of trails, the views over the desert are simply breathtaking. Even if you're not staying on-site you can get day passes to attend the events and socialize. With this, you’ll have access to the heated pool and enjoy a daily complimentary continental breakfast. Boarding the spacious Captain Jack yacht will show you that yoga need not be confined to studios and gyms, as you set sail around Turkish and Greek islands in search of wondrous locations to stretch those muscles and open up those chakras.
Behind the beach are a few bars ideal for sipping a cocktail and enjoying “the view.”
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic in Cuba near Havana is the lesser-known – at least internationally – beach, Mi Cayito.
You can choose to stay on a site for your own tent or RV, or book a rustic cabin either with or without a private bathroom.
Plus, it also means we get to live out our Brokeback Mountain fantasy (minus the tragic ending)!
We love a gay camping weekend. Most events take place in the shack Rusty’s – could it have a more American sounding name?

Standard cabins are fairly affordable during weekday nights and off-peak times.
We loved the night-time entertainment, with drag shows one night and a foam party the next. The ranch is located just one hour east of Phoenix in the foothills of the Superstition Mountains, next to Tonto National Forest and – perhaps appropriately – the famous Elephant Butte.
Their themed parties are second to none, especially for big events like Independence Day and Labor Day. As a bonus – and running with the animalistic theme – just 7 miles away is a wolf sanctuary – actual wolves that is, not the sub-culture of the gay world variety – well worth a visit.
Going naked out in the wilds need not mean roughing it, and Copper Cactus Ranch Men’s Retreat is an all-male clothing-optional bed and breakfast retreat, which provides accommodation options beyond your average campsite – including a huge mountain view room, a Vegas-style room, and even a bunk room beside a windmill to share with your fellow naked vacation enthusiasts.
Later in the day, the café serves up mouth-watering burgers and Philly cheese-steaks.
It’s a clothing-optional resort, though from what we noticed, most people tend to keep their kit on, unless they’re chilling by the pool or hot tub areas.
