Complicated or even toxic relationships and love stories that don’t immediately lead into a forever love are underrated in the world of queer stories. Images of the two warriors dressed in nothing but He-Man-esque bondage gear and furry underwear brought out a barbarian, macho sexuality that's always been present in Wolvie.
The character's rugged, stocky physique is easily comparable with the idealized men found on the pages of Japanese "Bara" manga (comics made by and for gay men).
It follows figure-skater-turned-ice-hockey-player Eric “Bitty” Bittle as he deals with the sporty culture of his new college, while coming to terms with his sexuality.
Over the years he develops a rivalry with Jack Zimmermann, the son of a legendary hockey player Bad Bob Zimmermann. Kate Kane is an army brat, a formidable vigilante and a lesbian.
I can’t make heads or tails why the frank discussion of sexuality in Gender Queer is any more censorable than say Shakespeare, but I do see why bigots and fear-mongers would be scared of the work: It’s incredibly effective!

Sara Century: Mariko Tamaki’s works are often queer and always worth reading, but many consider Laura Dean the best among them to date.
No two gay teenagers are alike and every person discovers themself and figures out who they are at different times. For queer kids, the show offered lessons in fabulousness as well as justice, and the romantic undercurrent between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune only amplified the Guardians' gay appeal. It’s quite rare to find a gay comic or a manga that represents gay men in their 50s, especially in parts of the world like Japan where homosexuality isn’t as widely accepted, and this is why we rate it as one of the best gay webcomics.

Throughout its run, it featured comic strips on coming out, political activism, bisexuality, and the use of correct pronouns.
It gave several up-and-coming cartoonists their big break, inspired the work of countless other gay artists, and provided a piece of escapism for gay comic book fans who had to contend with the challenges of being queer and living through the 1980s.
