A popular destination for lesbians and queer women, Farraguts has been serving Andersonville since 1997.

The city relishes public art, unique theatre, cultural festivals and music concerts of every genre. However, since the space is a little small, it might become a little loud when, say, the “not-so-talented” singers are on stage. Come for the drink specials, pool table, and outdoor patio — and stay for their famous Roscoe’s Drag Race, billed as the city’s longest-running amateur weekly drag competition.

A couple doors down from Jarvis Square Tavern in the cozy Jarvis Square enclave is R Public House, a chill, queer-friendly neighborhood spot slinging craft beer and comforting pub food.

Music open night is held on Tuesday nights starting from 7 pm where anything goes. Another highlight of the summer festival season is North Halsted Market Days, a street festival held in late July or early August. The staff is very friendly and always serves you with a smile. Play Skee-ball, shuffleboard, darts or board games like giant Jenga upstairs, or hang out downstairs for theme nights like the lively Thursday karaoke (be warned that some performers can actually sing), the Tuesday “Big Gay Gayme Show” and Dungeons & Dragons meetups.

This longstanding Boystown destination has multiple bars, a dance floor, an outdoor patio and all the music you want to hear, with theme nights dedicated to Madonna, Taylor Swift and more.

There is a wide selection of drinks to choose from, all of which are reasonably priced. It is not uncommon for couples to leave some things behind after their extra-curricular activities. Your mom probably went here for her bachelorette party. If you would like to indulge in a delicious drink, you will be happy to learn that the establishment offers a wide selection of tasteful drinks to enjoy.

The Closet Bar offered a space where gay men and lesbians could party, drink, flirt, and not have to worry about harassment or code-switching for the comfort of straight people. Come for the enticing, creative rotating cocktails named for trailblazers like Bessie Coleman and Celia Cruz; stay for the camaraderie and the bustling sidewalk cafe. Depending on the season, Bingo might also make an occasional appearance.

Since the popular Boystown bar has a late-night license, the restroom shenanigans often go on until 4 am on weekdays and 5 am on Saturdays.…
