Thomas J. West III earned a PhD in film and screen studies from Syracuse University in 2018. Though there’s more than enough romance and comedy to satisfy rom-com fans, Happiest Season also deserves a lot of credit for not shying away from the pernicious power of the closest and how it can destroy familial and romantic relationships.

Season Of Love follows three different loosely associated couples as they navigate the struggles of LGBTQ+ couplehood around the holidays.
Particularly notable is the film’s inclusion of a gay male couple as one of the central groups of characters. A cut above Lifetime/Hallmark movies but I’m including it because it satisfies the same itch. It’s painful to watch and can be hard on anyone who has just come out or had to deal with trauma from that kind of rejection from a judgmental family member.
If everyone’s so damn rich, why don’t they just give Frey the money to save the house? Christmas movie perfection!
Haley wants to sell and head back to her job where she’s been given a career-making assignment. This one caused me to take a long break from viewing these movies. Maybe they’re big in Canada?
Romantic chemistry?
The first one, Catch Me If You Claus starred Luke Macfarlane in his 16th movie for the network. Dashing In December

Wyatt Burwall comes home to Colorado to try and save his family ranch and finds himself drawn to the ranch hand Heath Ramos.
One caveat: I wanted Kristen Stewart’s character to end up with Aubrey Plaza. He must have an ironclad contract. All set against the backdrop of the Christmas Holidays of 1952. It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking film, and several important scenes unfold as the two men share Christmases. This particular film focuses on several different families, one of whom is the couple Mike and Zain (played by Jonathan Bennett and Vincent Rodriguez III), who will meet their new foster daughter.
While the jokes might sail right over the kid’s heads, this one might be better kept PG13. It’s an enjoyable movie but I don’t see these boys staying together.
